Audience at event

University of Athens had the opportunity to present the M-Care mobile application at the Games and Learning Alliance conference (GALA 2015), in Rome on 9th December.

GALA is an international conference dedicated to the science and application of serious games. The conference is organized by the Serious Games Society, which is building a scientific community at international level for shaping future research in the field. This community represents a significant blend of industrial and academic professionals committed to the study, development and deployment of serious games as really useful and effective tools to support better teaching, learning, training and assessment.

The app was presented at the Games for Health workshop, focusing especially on the adoption of gaming techniques in situations where health and well-being are involved.

M-CARE final project event 01/12/2015 – videos, ppts, pictures

On 1 December 2015, the final M-CARE conference was organised in Brussels, Belgium at VLEVA premises. The event “Caring for people with disabilities and older people: challenges, opportunities and (mobile/online) training solutions” focussed on the importance of good quality personal caregiving (PCG) for people with disabilities and older people. Focus was on caring in a broader perspective, and how M-CARE’s (mobile/online) training solutions can contribute to successful PCGs.

M-CARE Handbook, curriculum and training material for personal caregivers

M-CARE has just released its “M-CARE Handbook, curriculum and training material for personal caregivers”. The mobile and online application will be launched at a dedicated event in Brussels, Belgium, on 1 December 2015.

This publication aims to improve the daily work and performance of personal caregivers of people with disabilities and elderly people. Drafted upon experience of project partners, a survey was launched with more than 600 questionnaires, asking people with disabilities, personal caregivers and stakeholders, what they estimate as the most important items, a personal caregiver has to know, to be able to do, to decide and to be responsible for. An approach was decided following the rules of International Classification of Functioning ICF.

This publication contains the content to learn and teach personal caregivers of people with disabilities and elderly people to do their jobs correctly and in an emphatic and appropriate manner towards their clients. This publication contains also learning material and advice for methods how to teach and how to learn. All content of this curriculum is divided into units and modules.

M-Care project presented within Annual Assembly of VET School Directors Association

On 13 November 2015 the team of Interprojects LTD attended the Annual Assembly of VET School Directors Association. We were specially invited by the Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria to present innovative approaches in education and training that VET teachers can apply in their practices.
As the Bulgarian version of M-Care e-training platform and mobile app was completed and already tested we had the confidence to introduce M-Care training programme as a successful tool for training of professional caregivers. The event was organised in the format of consequent thematic sessions where panellists presented their practices and participants asked questions and made comments.
In general M-Care achievements were well accepted and several VET school directors shared that they are willing to include the training materials in their educational courses. The event was attended by more than 50 VET teachers, senior educational experts, school directors, and policy makers in the field of VET.
This event considerably increased the chances for sustainable use of M-Care training programme in Bulgaria. Even in the last months of the project the team of Interprojects LTD will keep on disseminating proactively the project outputs in order to keep the interest towards the project alive even after the end of the testing phase.

Conference celebrating the Day of Persons with Disabilities

The European Commission, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion organises the yearly conference celebrating the Day of Persons with Disabilities on 7-8 December 2015, “Growing together in a barrier-free Europe”.

Conference celebrating the Day of Persons with Disabilities on 7-8 December 2015, “Growing together in a barrier-free Europe”.

The conference will focus on children and young people with disability under the theme: “Growing together in a barrier-free Europe”. Presentations and discussions will be on the current situation of children with disabilities in Europe, including personal testimonies and on inclusive education, an opening door for equal participation of children and young people with disabilities in work and society.
Commissioner Thyssen will announce the winners of the 2016 Access City Award, (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) on 8 December as well as two special mentions on access to work and accessible smart cities, at a special ceremony during the conference.
As every year, the European Commission is celebrating the Day of Persons with Disabilities together with the European Disability Forum.

M-Care mobile app presented at gi-Cluster Networking Day

Professor Constantinos Mourlas presented M-Care project at gi-Cluster Networking Day, in Athens, on 10 November. The event was focused in identifying networking opportunities between universities and the industry. In this context, the presentation focused on the work undertaken under the framework of the project both in academic terms (research, analysis of user requirements, gamification theory) as well as in terms of content and technological solutions production (implementation of the application).

About 150 people representing academic institutions, research institutes, and gi-Cluster members attended the M-Care presentation. During the round table sessions the representatives of the New Technologies Laboratory of the Department of Media – University of Athens had also the opportunity to further discuss with the participants cooperation prospects regarding the future exploitation of the project’s outcomes.

It is noted, that the gi-Cluster comprises of small and large companies, academic and research institutions, all involved in the Gaming and Creative Technologies and Applications Industry.

Improved Integration of Disabled Persons into Society

The Closure Event for the “Improved Integration of Disabled Persons into Society” Project, co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, was held on 12th May 2015 in the Sheraton Ankara Hotel & Convention Center with the participation of the Undersecretary of Ministry of Family and Social Policy Ms. Nesrin Çelik, Minister Counsellor and Head of Cooperation of EU Delegation to Turkey Ms. Simona Gatti and the Vice President of Central Finance and Contracts Unit Ms. Emine Döğer. Representatives of CSOs which are working on disability, disabled persons and their families as well as academicians participated in the closure event. Participants listened to the speech of Hamit Özbek (12-years-old), who is a wheelchair basketball team player, and watched 3 short films related to the 23 Grants. Moreover, they had a chance to see the paintings made by persons with hearing disabilities. The Compendium book on the grant was distributed and materials related to the grant projects were displayed and distributed in the booths at the venue. At one of these booths, M-CARE Project activities were promoted during the event and the participants, including families of people with disabilities, CSO representatives and academicians were informed about M-CARE. Project leaflets were also distributed to the participants.

Comparative survey on Personal Assistance in Europe

The survey presents a summary of the research carried out by ENIL from 2011 to 2013 on the situation of personal assistance legislation in Europe. It involved desk research and the distribution of a survey to disability experts in the various European countries. Information was gathered from 22 European countries, including: Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Norway, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
